Debrief

The following questions can be used as a guide to help debrief the simulation activity. If you have multiple groups, it is helpful to highlight and explore the differences between groups as you work through the debrief questions. Before you begin, reiterate that the purpose of this activity is not to arrive at a single ‘correct’ answer, but rather to highlight the complexities of authorship ethics.

What members of the team did you agree would be authors?

  • How did you go about making this decision?
  • What disagreements/challenges did you encounter during the process?
  • How did you go about resolving them?
  • Whose perspective was considered “real” or “dominant”? Whose voices could have benefited from being amplified?

What is your final authorship order?

  • How did you go about making this decision?
  • What disagreements/challenges did you encounter during the process?
  • How did you go about resolving them?

In what way(s) did culture, power and/or relationships influence your decision making process?
