NTRODUCTION

Welcome to Paradigms of Education.

The purpose of this Online Supplement (OS) is to introduce six prevalent and relevant paradigms for health professions education. We define paradigm as a system of thought about educational purposes and practices.

We will provide an overview of each paradigm, illustrate how they are related to common education practices in health professions education, and discuss the importance of alignment. Throughout this OS, you will encounter activities to support your understanding and provide practical tools for education practice.

This OS was inspired and informed by our interactions with many educators over the years, including but not limited to: Sarah Wright, Maria Mylopoulos, and Mahan Kulasegaram.
