INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Teaching for Transformation.

The purpose of this Online Supplement (OS) is to introduce and inspire a transformative education approach with a focus on one such approach: critical pedagogy. We will go through the theory of critical pedagogy and provide some examples of related education practices. Throughout this OS you will encounter activities to support your understanding and provide practical tools for education practice.

This OS was created by Lindsay Baker, Farah Friesen and Stella Ng, and inspired and informed by our interactions with many educators over the years, including but not limited to: Mark Halman, Elizabeth Anne Kinsella, Ayelet Kuper, Arno Kumagai, Stephanie Nixon, Shanon Phelan, and Sarah Wright.

Teaching for Transformation (TforT) OS is a suite of offerings including online education supplements, annual conference, and custom consultations. TforT is brought to you in partnership by the Centre for Faculty Development and the Centre for Advancing Collaborative Healthcare & Education, extra-departmental units of the University of Toronto, hosted at Unity Health Toronto and University Health Network, respectively.
